Cantina Patrizia Cencioni is a family-owned winery situated on the southeastern slopes of Montalcino hill in Tuscany, Italy. Established in 1989, the estate spans approximately 50 hectares, with 8 hectares dedicated to Brunello di Montalcino vineyards, 1.5 hectares to Sangiovese-based Rosso di Montalcino, and 7 hectares to olive groves. The winery’s origins trace back to the 1950s, founded by Giuseppe Cencioni, a pioneer in the Brunello di Montalcino Consortium.
The estate benefits from a unique microclimate, situated at an elevation of about 1,050 feet (320 meters) above sea level. This high-altitude location, combined with cooling winds from Mount Amiata, moderates the Mediterranean heat, allowing for the production of wines with enhanced freshness and elegance.
Under the stewardship of Patrizia Cencioni, the winery has embraced sustainable farming practices, focusing on organic viticulture to preserve the land’s health and biodiversity. The vineyards are planted on soils rich in “galestro” (a mineral-rich compacted clay) and volcanic rock, contributing to the distinctive character of the wines.
Visitors to the winery can engage in guided tours and tastings, delving into the winemaking process and the rich history of the estate. The experience offers insights into the transformation of grapes into wine, emphasizing the winery’s dedication to quality and tradition.
Through meticulous attention to detail and a deep respect for the land, Cantina Patrizia Cencioni continues to produce wines that embody the essence of Montalcino, reflecting the passion and dedication of its founders and current custodians.
