Guado al Melo is a family-owned winery situated in the heart of the Bolgheri DOC area in Tuscany, Italy. Founded in 1999 by Michele Scienza and his wife Annalisa Motta, the estate spans 16.5 hectares of vineyards. The winery is committed to producing high-quality, terroir-driven wines through sustainable and artisanal practices.
The estate’s vineyards are located on a hill just behind the sea, benefiting from the Mediterranean climate and diverse soils. This unique terroir allows for the cultivation of various grape varieties, each expressing the distinct characteristics of the Bolgheri region.
The winery’s facilities are entirely underground, constructed according to ecological principles. At its heart is the “Biblioteca del Vino” (Wine Library), an extensive collection of books on the history and culture of wine, amassed over a lifetime by Professor Attilio Scienza, Michele’s father and a renowned viticulture expert.
Guado al Melo offers guided tours and tastings, providing visitors with insights into the winery’s history, sustainable practices, and the winemaking process. The tours also include a visit to the wine library, offering a comprehensive experience of the winery’s dedication to wine culture.
Through its commitment to quality, sustainability, and the preservation of wine culture, Guado al Melo continues to contribute to the esteemed reputation of Bolgheri wines, offering expressions that reflect the unique character of the region.
