The “Riund” Riserva is crafted from carefully selected Nebbiolo grapes grown in the esteemed Bricco Rocca vineyard. The wine undergoes an extended maceration period followed by aging in oak barrels, resulting in a complex and well-structured profile.

Visual: Deep garnet red with ruby reflections

Nose: Intense bouquet of red fruits, roses, violets, and subtle hints of spices and tobacco

Palate: Full-bodied and elegant, with flavors of cherry, plum, licorice, and a touch of vanilla; well-integrated tannins and balanced acidity.

Pairing: The complexity and structure of the “Riund” Riserva make it an excellent match for:

  • Red Meat: Braised beef, roasted lamb, and game dishes
  • Pasta: Rich pasta dishes with truffle or mushroom sauces
  • Cheese: Aged cheeses like Parmigiano-Reggiano or Pecorino

Cascina del Monastero, situated in the heart of the Barolo wine-growing region in the Langhe, Piedmont, Italy, is a family-owned winery with a rich history dating back to the 18th century. Originally a Benedictine monastery, the estate was acquired in 1926 by Alessio Grasso, a winemaker from Treiso. Today, it is managed by his grandson, Giuseppe Grasso, and his wife, Velda, who have transformed it into a renowned agriturismo and winery.

The estate spans approximately 25 hectares of vineyards, predominantly planted with Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto grapes. These vineyards are situated at an average altitude of 250 meters, benefiting from the region’s clay and limestone soils, which impart unique characteristics to the wines.

Cascina del Monastero produces a range of wines, including Barolo, Barbera d’Alba, Langhe Rosso, and Dolcetto d’Alba. The Barolo, in particular, is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, reflecting the traditional winemaking methods of the region. The estate’s commitment to quality is evident in the accolades received by their wines, such as the 2016 Barolo Bricco Luciani, which has been noted for its classic La Morra characteristics.

Beyond winemaking, Cascina del Monastero offers agriturismo accommodations, providing guests with an immersive experience in the Langhe region. The agriturismo features comfortable rooms, a swimming pool, and panoramic views of the surrounding vineyards and hills. Guests can enjoy wine tastings, guided tours of the vineyards and cellars, and participate in various activities that showcase the local culture and gastronomy.

The Grasso family’s dedication to hospitality and quality has earned Cascina del Monastero recognition in various tourism guides, highlighting its many fine qualities. The estate’s blend of historical charm, traditional winemaking, and modern amenities makes it a notable destination for wine enthusiasts and travelers seeking an authentic Piedmontese experience
