Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore is produced using the traditional ripasso method, where the young Valpolicella wine undergoes a secondary fermentation on the residual grape skins (pomace) from Amarone or Recioto wines. This process enhances the wine’s body, complexity, and alcohol content, resulting in a richer and more structured profile.
Visual: Deep ruby red color with orange hues.
Nose: Intense notes of spices, black cherries, and plums.
Palate: Dry with sweet tannins, offering persistent flavors of dark red ripe and dried fruits, vanilla, and chocolate, with a well-balanced structure.
Pairing: The richness and depth of Valpolicella Ripasso Superiore make it an excellent companion to:
- Red Meat: Roasted meats, grilled steaks, braised beef
- Game: Furred and winged game dishes
- Aged Cheeses: Spicy cheeses
Vinícola Falezze di Luca Anselmi is a family-run winery located in the Valpolicella region, specifically in the Mezzane Valley near Illasi, a short distance from Verona and Soave. The estate has been under the stewardship of the Anselmi family for three generations, with a history spanning over eighty-five years. The winery is surrounded by hazelnut and oak woods, olive groves, and historic vineyards, creating an ideal environment for viticulture.
The winery produces a limited edition of exclusive Valpolicella wines, including Amarone Riserva, Amarone, Valpolicella Ripasso, and Valpolicella Superiore. Each wine reflects the unique terroir of the Falezze area and the family’s dedication to traditional winemaking methods. The Amarone Riserva 2012, for instance, is a limited and numbered collection of 400 exclusive bottles, each presented in a unique wooden box made from reclaimed ancient fir and pine wood.
Owner and certified biologist Luca Anselmi emphasizes sustainable and organic farming practices, respecting the natural rhythms of the vineyards. The transition towards organic certification has been a meticulous process, reflecting the family’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Luca’s background in biology and specialization in food issues have heightened this sensibility, enabling the company to transition towards organic in a well-pondered, meticulous manner.
The winery’s limited production focuses on crafting high-quality wines that embody the essence of the Valpolicella region. The Valpolicella Superiore 2018, for example, undergoes a brief natural drying process followed by maturation in French oak tonneaux, resulting in a wine that balances tradition with innovation. The Valpolicella Superiore Ripasso 2018 is obtained through a second fermentation on the Amarone skins, enhancing its complexity and depth.
Vinícola Falezze di Luca Anselmi has garnered recognition for its dedication to quality and authenticity. The winery’s Amarone della Valpolicella DOCG has received favorable reviews from critics, with the 2017 vintage awarded Gold from the Berlin Wine Trophy and the Asia Wine Trophy. The limited production and unique presentation of their wines make them highly sought after by collectors and connoisseurs alike.
