This Amarone is produced using the traditional appassimento method, where carefully selected grapes are dried for several months before fermentation. This process concentrates the sugars and flavors, resulting in a rich and complex wine. The wine is then aged for a minimum of two years, with a portion of this time spent in oak barrels to enhance complexity.

Visual: Deep red color, turning to garnet with refinement.

Nose: Intense notes of dried fruit, tobacco, and spices.

Palate: Rich with clear notes of dried fruit; dry but very soft, full-bodied, warm, and vigorous.

Pairing: The richness and depth of this Amarone make it an excellent companion to:

  • Red Meat: Grilled steaks, braised beef, lamb dishes
  • Game: Venison, wild boar, duck
  • Aged Cheeses: Parmigiano-Reggiano, Pecorino, Gorgonzola

Villa Spinosa is a family-owned winery located in the heart of the Valpolicella Classica region, specifically in the historic village of Jago, Negrar di Valpolicella, at the foot of Colle Masua. The estate dates back to 1860 and is surrounded by an Italian-style romantic garden, offering panoramic views of the lush vineyards and the picturesque Negrar Valley. The property comprises approximately 25 hectares of vineyards situated at elevations between 230 and 423 meters above sea level, dedicated to cultivating traditional grape varieties such as Corvina, Corvinone, and Rondinella.

The winery produces a full range of Valpolicella denomination wines, including Amarone della Valpolicella Classico DOCG, Valpolicella Classico DOC, and Recioto della Valpolicella Classico DOCG. Notably, their “Albasini” Amarone della Valpolicella Classico 2017 has received significant acclaim, earning the prestigious “Quattro Viti” recognition in the 2025 edition of the VITAE Guide to Italian Wines published by the Italian Sommelier Association.

Villa Spinosa is committed to traditional winemaking techniques, with a focus on producing wines that reflect the unique terroir of their vineyards. The estate’s cellars, located in 19th-century subterranean areas, provide an ideal environment for wine production and aging. The cellars are equipped with barriques, tonneaux, and Slavonian oak barrels, allowing for meticulous aging processes that enhance the complexity and depth of their wines.

Beyond winemaking, Villa Spinosa serves as a cultural hub, hosting a variety of events such as cinema screenings, music and theater performances, photo exhibitions, and literary gatherings. The estate also offers hospitality services through its agriturismo, Corte Spinosa, which provides charming accommodations for guests wishing to immerse themselves in the beauty and culture of Valpolicella. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings, tours of the historic cellars, and strolls through the romantic Italian garden, making it a destination that celebrates both viticulture and the arts.

Under the guidance of Enrico Cascella Spinosa and his nephew, Piergiovanni Ferrarese, Villa Spinosa continues to uphold its legacy of producing high-quality wines that honor the traditions of the Valpolicella region. The estate’s dedication to excellence is evident in its meticulous vineyard management, traditional winemaking practices, and active engagement in cultural initiatives, solidifying its reputation as a distinguished producer in the Italian wine landscape.
